Congratulations to Professor Martin Puchner for receiving a Berlin Prize Fellowship!

Professor Martin Puchner, Byron and Anita Wien Professor of English and Comparative Literature, was recently selected as one of the Spring 2019 Class of Berlin Prize Fellows.

The highly coveted Berlin Prize is awarded annually by the
American Academy in Berlin to scholars, writers, composers, and artists from the United States who represent the highest standards of excellence in their fields.

During his semester-long fellowship in Berlin, Professor Puchner will write a history of Rotwelsch, a thieves’ argot spoken in Central Europe from the late Middle Ages to the early twentieth century.
