Research Fields: 18th, 19th, 20th-century English and French, German through early 20th century, Women’s studies, the novel, poetry;  cultural and political as well as aesthetic questions.

Education: Ph.D. Princeton University,  Comparative Literature (1979);  B.A. Cornell University, German Literature.

Languages: English, French, German, some Spanish.
