Speaker: Alex Averbuch, a scholar of Ukrainian literature and culture and a Ukrainian poet, as well as an accomplished translator, will join us.
Alex is a fellow at the Davis Center this year, and he will be joined in the presentation by the English-language translator of his latest book, Anne O. Fischer. Anne’s many translations include the Russian prose of Ilf and Petrov Olena Stiazhkina’s Donetsk diary, Ukraine War Love, translated from Ukrainian. She will join us via Zoom.
Alex and Anne will speak about The Last Letter of My Body. Based on Alex’s grandmother’s letters, this collection is itself a curation and a translation. They will discuss the ethical, formal, and literary nuances of translating a piece involving documents that had belonged to a deceased person. You can sample a preview of the book here.
