Professor Jeyifo passed away on February 11, 2026, and he is greatly missed by his friends and colleagues at AAAS and in Comp Lit.
Research Fields: African and Caribbean ‘Anglophone’ literatures; theatrical theory and dramatic literature, Western and non-Western; comparative African and Afro-American critical thought; Marxist literary and cultural theory; colonial and postcolonial studies; twentieth-century revolutionary social philosophy and literature.
Founded as a graduate program in 1904 and joining with the undergraduate Literature Concentration in 2007, Harvard’s Department of Comparative Literature operates at the crossroads of multilingualism, literary study, and media history.
