Research Fields: early modern (Edo, 17-19th Century) Japanese material culture on supernatural and otherworldly spectacles and its intersection with Buddhist Studies, Gender & Sexuality, and Media Theory. Current research project focuses on the representation of kijo, female demons, criminals, vengeful ghosts, and other deviant characters in Edo-period popular culture.
