Professor Adam Parkes specializes in British, Irish, and American literature from the late nineteenth century to the twenty-first. He is the author of Modernism and the Aristocracy: Monsters of English Privilege (2023), A Sense of Shock: The Impact of Impressionism on Modern British and Irish Writing (Oxford, 2011) and Modernism and the Theater of Censorship (1996).
Founded as a graduate program in 1904 and joining with the undergraduate Literature Concentration in 2007, Harvard’s Department of Comparative Literature operates at the crossroads of multilingualism, literary study, and media history.
