Margaret M. Gullette, PhD 1975, is the author of several books, including Agewise, Aged by Culture, and Ending Ageism, or How Not to Shoot Old People. In 2024, her book American Eldercide was nominated by the University of Chicago Press for a Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction and the National Book Award. Winner of the MLA Prize for Independent Scholars and the APA’s Florence L. Denmark Award for Contributions to Women and Aging.  

Founded as a graduate program in 1904 and joining with the undergraduate Literature Concentration in 2007, Harvard’s Department of Comparative Literature operates at the crossroads of multilingualism, literary study, and media history.
